Things To Do Near The Wall, NJ Train Shows
A visit to one of our train events at the InfoAge Science & History Museums could be a couple of hours or a couple of days as you explore the trains and the 20 other museums on site.
And we are also located at the center of the beautiful New Jersey shore minutes away from historic sites, nature reserves and the seaside fun of Asbury Park, Belmar and Point Pleasant. No matter the season, make a day or even a weekend trip to visit.
Good for families
- Jenkinson’s Boardwalk and Aquarium — Point Pleasant Beach. Aquarium, rides, arcades, games, miniature golf and beach activities; an easy half-day or full-day destination.
- Silverball Retro Arcade — Asbury Park. A playable collection of vintage pinball machines and arcade games, with admission sold by time rather than by the game.
- Asbury Splash Park and Asbury Eighteen Mini Golf — Seasonal oceanfront attractions for toddlers through older children.
- Allaire Community Farm — Wall. Petting zoo, animals, wagon rides and children’s farm-train rides; generally open April through November.
- Historic Village at Allaire — Wall. Blacksmithing, historic homes, shops, demonstrations and frequent themed events.
- Pine Creek Railroad — Wall. A short narrow-gauge train ride through Allaire State Park, normally operating on weekends.
- Wall Stadium Speedway — Wall. Stock-car and modified racing on a high-banked oval; schedule-dependent.
- Jersey Shore Arena — Wall. Ice hockey and skating; check for public-skating sessions before visiting.
- Algonquin Arts Theatre — Manasquan. Musicals, concerts and designated family productions in a downtown theater.
- Spring Lake Community House and Theatre — Plays, musicals, concerts and dance programs.
- The Paranormal Museum — Asbury Park. Guided tours involving ghost stories, unusual artifacts and paranormal history; best for older children and teens, and reservations are recommended.
- Jersey Shore BlueClaws at ShoreTown Ballpark — Lakewood. Minor-league baseball with fireworks, theme nights and boardwalk-style activities. This is near the outer edge of the 15-mile limit.
- Point Pleasant Beach’s Manasquan Inlet — A free place to watch fishing boats, pleasure craft and Coast Guard vessels pass between the jetties.
- Belmar Marina — Fishing boats, sightseeing trips and seasonal cruises depart here; the excursion operators change, so link to a current marina directory.
- Wall’s Airplane Park, Orchard Park and Community Park — Useful free playground stops for families with younger children. Wall maintains a municipal parks directory.
- The local beaches and boardwalks — Asbury Park, Ocean Grove, Bradley Beach, Avon-by-the-Sea, Belmar, Spring Lake, Sea Girt, Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach each offer a different atmosphere.
- Downtown Manasquan and Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park — Good choices for an easy combination of lunch, shopping and a short walk.
History
- Historic Village at Allaire — A restored 19th-century iron-producing community with a blast furnace, blacksmith shop, bakery, general store, workers’ homes and church.
- New Jersey Museum of Transportation – Pine Creek Railroad historic narrow giuage train rides at Allaire State Park.
- Stephen Crane House — Asbury Park. The only surviving American residence directly associated with the author of The Red Badge of Courage. Tours and events are schedule-dependent.
- Asbury Park Convention Hall, Paramount Theatre and Grand Arcade — A landmark 1928–30 oceanfront complex designed by Warren and Wetmore, architects of Grand Central Terminal.
- The Asbury Park Casino and Carousel House — Dramatic surviving pieces of the city’s resort and amusement history; best appreciated as an architectural walk rather than an indoor attraction.
- The Stone Pony — Asbury Park’s famous live-music landmark, with historic photographs and artifacts inside. Entry generally requires attending an event.
- Asbury Park Museum — Consult its calendar for exhibitions, talks and historical programs rather than assuming daily museum hours.
- Historical Society of Ocean Grove Museum and Centennial Cottage — Local-history exhibits, a restored 1880s cottage and seasonal walking tours.
- Ocean Grove’s Great Auditorium and tent colony — A striking 19th-century camp-meeting landscape. Auditorium tours are seasonal.
- Sea Girt Lighthouse — An 1896 lighthouse containing exhibits about its keepers, Fresnel lenses and the Morro Castle disaster; limited tour schedule.
- Belmar Historical Society Museum — Located in a 1911 firehouse annex. Its seasonal Boardwalk Stroll places historic photographs where the old scenes occurred.
- Spring Lake Historical Society Museum — Traces the resort community from its early inhabitants through the grand-hotel era; limited seasonal hours.
- Bradley Beach Historical Museum — Photographs and artifacts documenting the town’s boardwalk, hotels, theaters, beaches and community life. Confirm hours first.
- Bailey-Reed House Museum — Manasquan. A late-1700s farmhouse furnished to represent several periods of local life; limited hours.
- Squan Beach Life-Saving Station — Manasquan. A restored 1902 station with exhibits about shipwrecks, lifesaving equipment and Coast Guard rescue operations.
- New Jersey Museum of Boating — Point Pleasant. Boats, navigation, fishing, naval history and New Jersey’s maritime traditions; seasonal hours and free admission.
- Point Pleasant Historical Society Museum — A small local museum covering fishing, boatbuilding, the boardwalk and the surrounding community.
- Old Wall Historical Society’s Blansingburg Schoolhouse Museum — A restored one-room schoolhouse dating to about 1855; generally open for scheduled programs rather than daily visits.
- St. Catharine Church — Spring Lake. An architecturally notable lakeside church with elaborate artwork; visitors should respect services and parish activities.
- Spring Lake’s historic homes and hotel district — Particularly suitable for a self-guided architecture walk around the lake, Third Avenue and the oceanfront.
- Ocean Grove historic walking tour — Victorian homes, the Great Auditorium, tent colony, Centennial Cottage and camp-meeting sites can be combined into one walk.
- Asbury Park music-history walk — Convention Hall, the Stone Pony, Wonder Bar, Springwood Avenue and the city’s murals tell a broader story than any one museum.
- Transparent Clinch Gallery — Asbury Park. Danny Clinch’s photography of Springsteen and other major musicians makes this a worthwhile music-history and arts stop.
Railroad
- New Jersey Museum of Transportation/Pine Creek Railroad — The essential railroad attraction: a working narrow-gauge museum and short train ride at Allaire State Park.
- Edgar Felix Bikeway — A rail-trail built on part of the former Freehold and Jamesburg Agricultural Railroad/Penn Central corridor.
- Historic Allenwood Station — Visible near the bikeway’s Allenwood section and worth pairing with a bicycle trip.
- Spring Lake station — A handsome historic stop that can anchor a rail-and-architecture walk through Spring Lake.
- Shore-town train outing — Visitors can leave the car behind and use NJ Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line for stations including Point Pleasant Beach, Manasquan, Spring Lake, Belmar, Bradley Beach and Asbury Park.
Nature and outdoors
- Allaire State Park — Hiking, mountain biking, fishing, picnicking, wildlife and the Manasquan River floodplain. The family campground is presently closed for construction, but the park remains open.
- Shark River Park — Wall and Neptune. Nearly 1,000 acres with 7.5 miles of trails, ponds, forest, fishing, picnic areas and a playground.
- Manasquan Reservoir — Howell. A five-mile perimeter trail, shorter nature trail, fishing, boating, playground and observation areas. The Environmental Center is closed for renovation until an anticipated spring 2027 reopening.
- Edgar Felix Bikeway — A paved rail-trail connecting Manasquan with Wall and the approaches to Allaire State Park; good for walking and cycling.
- Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area — Manasquan. A small riverfront preserve for walking, fishing, kayaking, wildlife watching and a designated dog-friendly beach section.
- Manasquan River Wildlife Management Area — Allenwood. A more rustic destination for hiking, fishing, paddling and wildlife observation.
- Spring Lake and Divine Park — A picturesque, mostly level walk around the spring-fed lake, with bridges, gardens and resident waterfowl.
- Wreck Pond and its coastal outfall — Spring Lake and Sea Girt. A pleasant birding and waterside stop that can be combined with the beach.
- Manasquan Inlet — Walk either jetty, watch boats negotiate the inlet and look for seabirds and marine life. Conditions can be hazardous during rough weather.
- Shark River Inlet and Belmar Marina — Fishing, boat watching, sunsets and waterside walking.
- Allaire’s Capital-to-the-Coast and multiuse trails — Several routes explore old rail corridors and pine-oak forest. Use the current state trail map.
- Seasonal fishing, whale-watching and sightseeing boats — Available from Belmar and Point Pleasant.
Military
- The incredible InfoAge Science & History Museums – Wall. Our home base! You will already be here when you visit the train shows.
- National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey — Sea Girt. Covers more than 350 years of New Jersey citizen-soldier history and includes the experimental Intelligent Whale submarine. Admission is free; normally open weekdays.
- National Guard outdoor vehicle collection — At Sea Girt; viewing vehicles inside the training-center gates may require identification or an escort.
- Squan Beach Life-Saving Station — Preserving and maintaining the Squan Beach Life-Saving Station as a historic site and maritime landmark in the Borough of Manasquan.
